Congresswoman Underwood secures $959K for Romeoville Lift Station

Published on

Congresswoman Lauren Underwood (IL-14) secured $959,757 in federal dollars for replacement of the Spangler sanitary lift station. Lift stations are essential parts of the wastewater system, pumping the water from residential homes and businesses up to the lines that bring the sewage to the treatment facility. The existing Spangler station is over 60 years old and corroded. A replaced lift station will protect the health of the 10,000 residents who are served by this station as well as the businesses around the site and public buildings including the library, schools, and recreational facilities.

The new station will have more pumping capacity, which will require running a larger main under Route 53 directly to the wastewater treatment facility. No road closures are anticipated during the project. The new station’s equipment will be housed in a small building and will include an on-site generator in the event of a power outage.

“We are very thankful to Congresswoman Underwood for securing this funding for us,” said Mayor Noak. “Infrastructure is an exceedingly important part of any town and double so when it is infrastructure connected to public health.”

The project will go out to bid in the next 60 days. Work on the replacement of the lift station is expected to start in early summer with completion by the end of the year.
