Creating her path through real estate

Published on

As Black History Month ends the celebration will continue throughout the year of achievements and contributions African Americans in the community and across the country have and are making. As we are now in March, we will celebrate Women’s History Month and honor the accomplishments and contributions of women throughout history.

Among these shero’s is Carmen Carter, a full-time Realtor and founder of Carter Realty Group, in Joliet. Carmen’s journey in the real estate industry started more than two decades ago, and her hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence have made her a successful business owner.

Carmen’s story is one of courage, determination, and resilience. As a veteran of the United States Air Force, Carmen learned the importance of leadership and teamwork. After her military service, she entered the real estate industry as a manager in a local boutique. Carmen’s passion for the business grew when she met a young lady who made a living through real estate. Carmen took the plunge and passed the course and licensing exam to become a real estate agent.

Carmen’s journey in the industry was not without challenges. She faced roadblocks when trying to break into the foreclosure market. However, she did not give up and instead founded her own brokerage, Carter Realty Group, in 2011. Since then, she has guided her team to achieve a residential volume of over 40 million dollars in 2022.

Carmen’s success is not only measured by her achievements but also by her commitment to education and service to the community. She authored a class on short sales that has been accredited by the State of Illinois, and her agency is certified by various organizations, including Women’s Business Enterprise Certified (WBE), Minority Business Enterprise Certified (MBE), Veterans Business Enterprise Certified (VBE), and Service-Disabled Veterans Business Enterprise Certified (SDVBE). Carmen also serves as Vice-President of the African American Business Association and is an active member of the National Hook-Up Of Black Women, Joliet Chapter, and the Joliet Chamber of Commerce.

At Carter Realty Group, Carmen and her team believe in Education, Empowerment, and Elevation, not only for their clients but also for their Broker Associates and business partners. Their mission is to provide exceptional service to their clients, regardless of the value of their property.

As we celebrate Black History Month, Carmen’s story serves as an inspiration to all of us. Her achievements and contributions to the real estate industry and the community are a testament to her hard work, dedication, and resilience.
