Election season is now underway

Monday was the last day to file petitions for the June 28, 2022, primary election in Will County.

Filing for Will County Clerk is incumbent Democrat Lauren Staley Ferry and Republican Gretchen Fritz. Running for Will County Sheriff are incumbent Democrat Mike Kelley and Republican Jim Reilly. Incumbent Democrat Tim Brophy is running for another term for Will County treasurer against Republican Raj “PI” Pillai. Incumbent Democrat Shawn Walsh will face off against Republican Elizabeth Caparelli-Ruff for Will County Regional Superintendent of Schools. All are four-year terms.

The winners will face off in the General Election on Nov. 8 general.

Running for Will County Board District 1 as an unopposed Democrat is Joe Van Duyne. Republican challengers are Jerry Bene, Tina McGrath and Katie Deane-Schlottman. In District 2, Bob Howard is unchallenged as a Democrat. Republican challengers are Judy Ogalla, Frankie Pretzel, Hillary “Mattsey” Kurzawa and Robert M. Hendrick. In District 3, Democrats Michael Flanagan and Sherry Newquist are vying against each other, as are Republicans Daniel J. Butler and George Macias.

In District 4, Democrats running for the county board seat are Andrew Englebrecht and Sheri Boniecki-Cooling. Republicans are Stephen J. Balich, Anthony D. Granata Jr., James M. Richmond and David R. Molinari.

Running for a seat on District 5 are Democrats Scott Pointon, Shery Williams, and Dionne Wright. Republicans are Philip Juarez and Annette Parker.

Democrats seeking a seat for District 6 are Janet Diaz, Jazmin Martinez, Denise Winfrey, and Herbert Brooks Jr. No Republican filed a petition for Will County Board District 6.

The two Democrats seeking a spot-on District 7 are Brian Bessler and Natalie Coleman and the Republicans are Glenda Wright-McCullum and Vince Logan.

In District 8, Democrat Mica Freeman is running unopposed. Republican challengers are Mark V. Revis and Nicky Giannasi.

Democrats Destinee Ortiz, Margaret Tyson and Kevin “Kollins” Hedemark are vying for a spot-on District 9. Republican Raquel M. Mitchell is running unopposed.

Looking to represent the interests of District 10 in Will County Board are Democrats Meta Mueller and Khadija “D.J.” Sufi. Republican challengers are Julie Berkowicz and Vasavi Chakka.

In District 11, Elnalyn Costa, Jacqueline Traynere, Daryl Parks and Saud Gazanfer are the Democrats and Republicans who filed petitions are Antonio Timothee and Larry Alexander Shaver.

All the district seats on Will County Board are for four years.

Will County Board will consist of 26 members, two each from 13 districts.

A lottery will be held by the County Clerk for the candidate’s ballot position in the coming week.
