Anthony Fremarek headshotSentencing is Feb. 23 for a former Plainfield Township Supervisor who was arrested last year by the U.S. Secret Service and charged with six counts of embezzling from his employer.

Anthony Fremarek, 49, was accused of taking more than $1.3 million over six years from a technology consulting company in Schaumburg to fund personnel expenses, including payments on his credit cards without authorization. According to the charges, Fremarek allegedly made false entries in the company’s accounting system over a six-year period by making it appear payments went to legitimate vendors.

Fremarek on Nov. 28 entered a guilty plea with the Illinois Northern District of Illinois. He faces 20 years in prison and a fine of $250,000.

Fremarek, a Plainfield Township resident, worked for PSC Group LLC until 2019 before eventually becoming the company’s chief financial officer. He received his bachelor’s degree in accounting from the University of Illinois.

PSC Group in Schaumburg, a consulting firm, where Fremarek allegedly stole money to pay off his credit cards issued a statement reassuring its clients that the company “remains in strong financial shape” and that customer data was not compromised or breached in any way.

Fremarek, a Republican, was elected to the Plainfield Township Board as trustee in 2009 and elected supervisor in 2013. He won re-election four years later before resigning two months after his indictment.

The Plainfield Township serves more than 80,000 residents in Plainfield, Joliet, Romeoville and Crest Hill. Plainfield Township’s boundaries run to the north by 135th Street, to the south by Theodore Street, to the East by Gaylord Road and to the west by County Line Road.
