The club has scheduled six exhibition games against Frontier League rivals and one game against the American Association's Gary RailCats. Two of the exhibition games will occur at Silver Cross Field. Fans will get the chance to check out the Slammers in action before the season officially begins. Admission to the home games is five dollars and free for season ticket holders. Seating is first come, first serve.
"Exhibition games are critical to our success because it's a chance for our players to get some work in a game setting and it gives our rookies a chance to earn a roster spot," said Slammers VP of Baseball Operations Ron Biga.
Joliet's first exhibition game is at home as they host the NormalCornBelters on Sunday, May 6 at 2:00 p.m. The next four occur on the road as they head to Crestwood on Monday, May 7 at 1:00 p.m. to take on the Windy City ThunderBolts. After that they visit the expansion Schaumburg Boomers for two battles, one on Thursday, May 10 at 1:00 p.m. and the other on Friday, May 11 at 11:00 a.m. The very next day on Saturday, May 12, the Slammers head to Gary, IN to take on the RailCats at 2:00 p.m.
On Monday, May 14, the Slammers return home to host the Boomers at 7:00 p.m. The final exhibition game is set for Tuesday, May 15 at 7:00 p.m. in Normal against the CornBelters.
The Slammers begin their defense of the Frontier League title on Tuesday, May 22 at 7:05 p.m. as they take on the Traverse City Beach Bums.
Fireworks are scheduled for after the game. Single-game tickets for the 2012 season are available now!
