Registration is underway for the <http://www.jolietymca.org/branches/avery.php> Galowich Family YMCA's Kidz Zone program, which provides before and after school recreational programs for students, kindergarten through eighth grade, in Plainfield, Joliet, Minooka and Troy elementary schools.

Mark your calendar for the Annual St. Mary Nativity Parish Picnic on Sunday July 1, 2012 at St. Joseph Park, Raynor and Theodore St. Joliet from Noon until 9:00 pm.
The picnic festivities begin with a Polka Mass on Sunday, July 1 at 10:30 am in the Church, followed by a day of sunshine and fun at St. Joseph Park. There will be plenty of great food, refreshments, bingo, children’s games and music by Bruce Korosa (12:00-4:00pm) and Class VI Band (5:00 -9:00pm)

The Troy Educational Foundation gave nine teachers educational grants at the school district’s regular board meeting recently. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant, Chair, as well as board members, Amy Dow and Molly Babyak presented the winners to the school board. Troy School District Board President Tony Andreano thanked the group for its efforts and supporting the school.

The women of the GFWC IL Plainfield Junior Woman’s Club (PJWC) are presenting their first annual PJWC High School Scholarship recipients. PJWC is dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service. To honor the contribution of student volunteers, PJWC has established scholarships for a graduating, college bound female student.
Aviation Summer Camp at LU

A summer aviation camp for high school students will held June 18-22 on Lewis University’s Main Campus in Romeoville. Participants will have the opportunity to fly in Cessna 172s each day, take a behind-the-scenes tour of O’Hare Airport, participate in various aviation classes, use flight simulators and learn about the aviation industry from current professionals in aviation.

JWHS Senior Matt Koran Receives IHSA All-State Academic Team Honorable Mention Joliet West High School senior Matt Koran recently received an honorable mention for the IHSA All-State Academic Team. Koran was of 50 student-athletes chosen and is a three-sport varsity athlete who has earned all-conference during the past six seasons.
Regional Champs Head to National Spelling Bee Finals

ComEd hosted a pep rally for three local students who will represent DuPage, Will and suburban Cook counties at the National Spelling Bee Finals in Washington, D.C. During the rally, held rece employees and elected officials from their hometowns wished them good luck leading up to the national competition later this month.

St. Mary Nativity Catholic School 4th grader wins 3rd place in Will County Tar Wars Poster Contest. Allison Pillish, grade 4, of St. Mary Nativity School won third place in the Will County Tar Wars Poster contest, which is hosted by the Will County Health Department. The contest helps children to recognize the importance of not using tobacco. She won a $25 Wal-Mart gift card, and advances on to the Illinois state contest.

Students Receive Honors at History Fair

Over 30 Joliet West High School students competed at the 27th annual Illinois State History Fair Exposition recently at the Capital Convention Center in Springfield, Ill. The students advanced to the State History Fair and presented exhibit boards, research papers and documentaries after qualifying at the recent Northern Illinois University History Fair.
