Jordan Henry found guilty in 2022 Chicago Carjacking on Diversey Parkway that ended in Will County after high-speed chase

Published on

State’s Attorney James Glasgow announced that Jordan Henry, 28, of Harvey, was found guilty of multiple counts arising from a Chicago carjacking and subsequent car chase by law enforcement that began at 1802 Diversey Parkway and ended off Interstate 55 in Will County. Circuit Judge Bertani-Tomczak rendered the verdict following a bench trial. Jordan was found guilty on all 13 counts charged in the indictment:

  • Three counts of Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class X Felony – Category A);
  • Two counts of Armed Robbery (Class X Felony-Category A);
  • Two counts of Attempt Aggravated Vehicular Hijacking (Class 1 Felony – Category A);
  • Aggravated Unlawful Possession of Stolen Motor Vehicle (Class 1 Felony – Category A);
  • Two counts of Theft (Class 2 Felony – Category A);
  • Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 3 Felony – Category A);
  • Aggravated Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Peace Officer (Class 4 Felony – Category A); and
  • Striking a Police Animal (Class A Misdemeanor – Category B).

Henry’s bond had been set at $1 million. In May, Henry sought to dismiss the action in Will County, arguing that it should be tried in Chicago where the carjacking occurred. Judge Bertani-Tomczak denied the motion after the prosecution argued that Henry continued to exert unauthorized control over the stolen Volkswagen Jetta in Will County.  Henry was detained on the $1 million bond in the Will County Adult Detention Facility until his trial.

At the time the vehicular hijacking occurred, Henry was out on a $10,000 at 10 percent bond in Cook County for a Class 4 Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle on January 26, 2022, less than a month earlier.  Henry also had two prior Cook County felony convictions: Class 3 Retail Theft (2013), and Class 2 Robbery, a forcible felony (2012).

Henry’s sentencing is scheduled for March 6. He faces a sentence of 21 to 45 years in prison.
