Brooks team visits 6th grade homes to say “hi”

Brooks Middle School Principal Keith Wood and members of the Brooks administrative and teaching teams visited the homes of students who will enter 6th grade at the Bolingbrook school starting Aug. 16.
The “community walk” included National Junior Honor Society 8th graders some of whom received visits from Dr. Wood and the Brooks team during the first community walk two years ago.
“Since people did this for me, it’s fair I do it for them,” said 8th grader Chris Bavaro, who received a visit from Dr. Wood as a 6th grader.
“I enjoy walking and greeting people.”
Incoming 6th graders received a glimpse of what life is like at Brooks and were given a flyer introducing administrators, deans and counselors.
Dr. Wood initiated the community walk during his first year as Principal “to help reduce the scariness” of coming to a large middle school like Brooks.
The Community Walk team included NJHS members Kayla King, Erica Igalde, Teertsah Muhammad, Damien Morrison, Yuna Park, Roxana Ascencio, Julian Torres, Esther Egbulono and Bavaro.
Roughly 350 homes were on the community walk visit schedule.
