Forest Park Students Practice Drumming
10/8/2013, 8:43 p.m.
Forest Park Individual Education School provides students unique educational choices including academics, socialization, and creativity. Each semester, more than 250 Forest Park students, in grades 1 – 5, begin new “creative” classes as part of their curriculum. The students choose two different creative classes to attend each quarter during the school year.
One of the new creative classes offered this year is “Garbage Can Drumming.” Forest Park Fourth Grade Teacher Amie Sallese was awarded a $200 classroom grant from the Joliet Grade Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence to purchase equipment and supplies for the class. Students are learning the fundamentals of music while using garbage cans to make music. The class meets weekly. Other creatives offered this semester include Secrets in Science, All About Dinosaurs, Fall Art, Tae Bo, Poetry, Ancient Egypt, Yoga, and Extreme Weather Patterns.
