Pre-registration is now open for the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s sixth annual “Cruise the Creek” bike ride.

The free, family-friendly bike ride will be held from noon to 4 p.m. on Oct. 4. The ride takes place on a 6-mile loop trail that winds through scenic woodlands, wetlands, and prairie in Hickory Creek Preserve in New Lenox. (A previous 11-mile ride option is unavailable this year due to a trail improvement project on Hickory Creek Bikeway.)

Online pre-registration is available at ReconnectWithNature.org through noon on Oct. 2.

Pre-registered riders will be able to check in at 11:30 a.m. on the day of the event. The first 500 pre-registered riders to check in at the event will receive a free T-shirt. (Pre-registration does not guarantee you a T-shirt, and size choice cannot be guaranteed.) Day-of registration will open at noon at the event and those registrants will not receive T-shirts.

The event is open to all ages, but the ride is recommended for individual riders of at least 11 years of age. In addition to their own bikes, all riders are urged to bring drinking water and wear safety helmets.

The event also features a festive fall gathering with entertainment, children's activities, a petting zoo, pony rides, inflatables, s'mores and pumpkin painting until 4 p.m.

“Cruise the Creek” will be held rain or shine, unless there is severe weather. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The Forest Preserve will make reasonable modifications to ensure that all people have an equal opportunity to enjoy District offerings. For more information or to request an accommodation, visit ReconnectWithNature.org/ADA.
