Say hello to the taste of summer in a bottle-La Gioiosa Prosecco DOC of Treviso, Italy, a surpisingly luxurious and versatile Italian sparkling wine for a mere $10. The taste is resplendent with bright citrus flavors and lovely floral notes, qualities you'd find in a sparkling wine at double the price. La Gioiosa is the "everyday wine" produced by the distinguished folks at Villa Sandi winery of Treviso. Dominated by an historic Palladium castle, the vast vineyards, cellars and production facilities make it one of the largest producers in the area, but don't take that to mean a compromise in quality. La Gioiosa meets every criteria of quality and exceeds standards of excellence. This easy drinking Prosecco has really fine and persistent bubbles, just like the more pedigreed brands. It also is very easy to drink, with none of that gassy backup that you might experience with many overly gaseous sparkling wines. The flavor is dry enough to take you from the aperitif, fruit and cheese course, all the way through the meal. It also has an off-dry quality with just enough sweetness to make it a perfect partner to mingle with Tiramisu, a local Treviso creation that seems ubiquitous at gatherings and restaurants wherever Italian cuisine is served. Try a bottle or a case. It's the perfect summertime companion that could become a sparkling wine friend for life!
