Ross Dress for Less will open a new store in the former Barnes & Noble location on Route 59 in Plainfield.

No opening date has been announced for the discount clothing and housewares store, which is to move into the 24,280-square-foot site vacated by the book store chain last year, according to a story published by Crain's Chicago Business.

Ramzi Hassan, vice president for Edwards Realty Co., told Crain's that Ross has signed a lease with his company, which owns the Kensington Center strip mall where the 12700 Route 59 storefront is located.

Hassan also told the business publication that Barnes & Noble asked to lower its rent when its lease came up in 2013, but his company declined and opted to find a new tenant.

Ross' Web site says it sells brand-name items at prices that are 20 percent to 60 percent less than what department stores charge. They currently have 10 locations in Illinois, including stores in Naperville, Bolingbrook and Orland Park.
