Downpour brings early end to Slammers Tuesday game

The Joliet Slammers-Presented by ATI Physical Therapy-were trailing the Washington Wizards 6-1 in the bottom of the 4th inning when the game was postponed by rain. The contest will be picked up where it left off at 5pm on Wednesday evening with the regularly scheduled game then starting at 7:05pm
The Wild Things scored four runs in the 2nd inning to charge against Joliet starter Andrew Busby. Steward Ijames led off the inning with a solo homer, Jim Vahalik added an RBI double and then Daniel Poma's 2-run single made it 4-0. CJ Beatty then crushed a solo home run in the 4th inning to make it 5-0.
Joliet scored in the bottom of the 3rd when Max Casper led off being hit by a pitch. He advanced on a Darian Sandford double and scored on a Maquis Riley ground out. Washington scored again in the top of the 4th as Maxx Garrett doubled and scored on a Vahalik grounder.
There was rain before the game two delays during the contest before it was decided to postpone the remainder until Wednesday. The game will be picked up in the 4th and will go the full nine innings while the second contest will become a 7-inning game.
Wednesday will be a Spikes Super Students Night sponsored by the University of St. Francis. Then it will be a Thirsty Thursday featuring 2-dollar drafts and 2-dollar fountain drinks to end the series. Each game time will be 7:05pm at Silver Cross Field. Games this summer will be broadcast live on 1340 WJOL and wjol.com and audio/video feed of home games this summer can be seen at independentprofessionalbaseball.com.
