Drop off your old pumpkins for composting or take part in tossing or rolling them for prizes at the Will ...

If you're ready to toss your decomposing Halloween pumpkin into the trash, Will County has another suggestion: "Pitch it" and maybe win a prize.

The county is joining forces with Homewood Disposal to hold a "Pumpkin Pitch," aka a Jack-O-Lantern Collection for Composting, from 6 a.m. to noon Friday at the Will County Office Building, 302 N. Chicago St., Joliet.

Bring up to five pumpkins to toss or roll -- catapults, slingshots and other launching devices are not allowed. Pumpkins must be "naked," and free of candles and other decorations.

All of the pumpkins dropped off or pitched will be composted.

WJOL-AM morning personality Scott Slocum will be doing a live broadcast from the event. The grand prize in the contest is being provided by Heroes West.
