Christmas in Plainfield and Shorewood officially kicks off this week with both towns welcoming shoppers for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29.
Shorewood shop owners will get started early with a ribbon cutting Wednesday at 1141 Brookforest to kick start the village's "Tis the Season to Shop Shorewood" series. Events planned for the season include free open houses at area stores throughout November and December.
On Sunday, Santa makes an appearance at Shorewood Village Hall from 3 to 5:30 to pose for free pictures with the kids. Children can also participate in a Christmas crafts, drink hot cocoa and listen to choral music presented by Troy school students.
The day will end with the lighting of the village Christmas tree starting at 6 p.m. in the Towne Center park.
Shorewood residents can also marvel at the over 30 decorated trees on display inside village hall starting on Dec. 1 and running through the end of the year. Trees decorated by Shorewood businesses and other organizations will be on view during business hours from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
While there, visitors can also enter a contest to guess the number of chips left at village hall by Giggles, the Shorewood Elf.
A complete list of events and open houses as well as holiday coupons and discounts for local shoppers can be found on the village's website, http://vil.shorewood.il.us.
