Families faced with a housing crisis need more than brick and mortar. Often they are struggling to obtain the daily necessities of life.

To help meet some of those needs, the Will County Regional Office of Education and the Will County Center for Community Concerns are sponsoring a Support Day for Families in Transition to be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. April 25 at Joliet West High School, 401 N. Larkin Ave., Joliet, IL 60435.

We are asking the public to support these families by donating hygiene supplies (deodorant, bath soap, shampoo, disposable razors, toothbrushes and toothpaste, etc.).

Donations can be dropped off at the Regional Office of Education located at 702 W. Maple St, New Lenox between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, or at the Will County Center for Community Concerns located at 2455 Glenwood Ave. Joliet, IL 60435 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Donations will be accepted through Wednesday, April 15, 2015.

Cash donations are very welcome and are tax-deductible, as allowed by law. Please direct your contribution to: “Families in Transition,” United Way of Will County, 54 N. Ottawa St., Joliet, IL 60432.

The latest Illinois State Board of Education report indicates that Will County’s homeless count stands at 1,610. We are hoping people will consider partnering with us to help those families who are struggling with the issues of homelessness.
