The Joliet team marched over the Rascals, taking the win with an 11-4 score.

The Joliet Slammers provided this account of Tuesday night's game:

The Joliet Slammers scored seven times in the 2nd inning and rolled to an 11-4 win over River City on Tuesday.

The Slammers (28-39) took a 1-0 lead in the 1st inning off Rascals starter Lucas Laster. Charlie White was hit by a pitch and later scored on a double play. Joliet then broke the game open with their big 2nd inning. Phil Bates and White each had RBI singles, with the other run coming on an error. The big hit was a grand slam from Alfredo Rodriquez, knocking Laster from the game with the Rascals (30-35) trailing 8-0.

Joliet starter Kevin Walter could not stay in the game long enough to earn the victory. He gave up an unearned run in the 3rd and then three more runs scored in the 5th, with RBI doubles from Curran Redal and Jackson Slaid ending his day. Kevin McNorton came on in relief and earned the win with 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief. He struck out two and walked none on the way to lowering his ERA to a stellar 1.61 on the season. Hunter Ackerman pitched a scoreless 7th inning and Patrick Dyer blanked the Rascals in the 8th and 9th.

The final runs of the day from Joliet came courtesy of catcher Jack Cleary’s 3-run homer off River City reliever Joe Pavlovich, who went 4 2/3 innings out of the pen. The Rascals ended up using five pitchers on the day.

The Slammers continue their three game set with the Rascals on Wednesday at 6:35pm. Tim Koons (7-0) is scheduled to face Joliet’s Michael Carden (2-4). The series concludes with Thursday’s 6:35pm start. All games in River City can be heard at http://www.talkstl.com/river-city-rascals/.
