12/3/2015, 6:48 p.m.
The Joliet Area/South Suburban Alumnae Chapter (JASSAC) of Delta
Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. in partnership with the Jassac Charitable Foundation,
Inc. brings Santa Claus to the Joliet area children on Saturday, December 5th.
Breakfast with Santa will be held at Washington Jr. High School, located 402
Richards St. in Joliet, IL from 9am-12pm. The first 500 children, ages 12 and
under, will meet Santa Claus, receive a free breakfast and select a toy from Santa’s
toy room. All children who attend will be entered into a bike raffle, with some
winning a brand new bike.
Breakfast with Santa has been an annual community outreach event for JASSAC since 1989. This event was created with the purpose of providing a warm breakfast,
staples such as books, coats, hats and gloves and of course toys and bikes to young
children. Every two years, JASSAC selects a different south suburban community to
hold Breakfast with Santa based on the need for economic support. This is the
second year this event will be held in Joliet.
Chapter President, Kimberly Rowe-Barney says, “Giving back to the community is the basic foundation of our organization. Seeing the smiles on the children’s faces at
our annual Breakfast with Santa event, makes everything we do worthwhile.” This
event is free to the public, however breakfast for those 13 years and older will be
$2.00 per person and pictures with Santa will cost $3.00 each. Donated items such
as hats, gloves, and new to gently used coats will also be available for choosing.
Breakfast with Santa, in conjunction with the JASSAC Social Action Committee, will
be on-site registering voters in preparation for the upcoming elections. The Joliet
Park District will provide information on winter programs and the Joliet Public
Library representatives will be available to sign residents up for new library cards
and participate in the book drive.
