The Joliet Slammers announced the Washington Nationals have signed infielder Grant DeBruin to a contract. The 2014 Frontier League All-Star spent two seasons with the Slammers and will have his first opportunity with an MLB organization this spring. DeBruin made great strides in his second season with the Slammers hitting .355 with 12 HR and 67 RBI, leading the Slammers in all three categories in 2014.

DeBruin started his professional career with the Slammers after earning NCBWA All-American status at the University of Alabama in Huntsville (UAH) in 2012. Slammers manager, Jeff Isom wishes the Georgia native new found success. “Grant played really well both offensively and defensively for last season. We hate to see him go but in the same breath couldn’t be happier for Grant and this opportunity. We’re excited to see how far he can take it,” said Isom.
