The last baby to be born in Will County in 2014 was Ayanna Sophia, the first child of Guadalupe Marin and Alejandro Campos of Joliet, who arrived at 9:48 p.m. Dec. 31.

Will County's first baby of the new year was delivered at 2:31 a.m. Thursday at Silver Cross Hospital in New Lenox.

Daniel, son of Mariela Rodriguez and Arturo Roman of Joliet, weighed in at 7 pounds and was 21 inches long, according to a news release issued by the hospital. He's the couple's first child and was delivered by Dr. Joyce Albi, obstetrician/gynecologist with Aunt Martha’s Joliet Community Health Center.

“I was eating tamales at my mom’s house when I went into labor,” Rodriquez said. “I wasn’t due until Jan. 8, so this was a nice surprise.”

The family was presented with a gift basket of items for the new mother and baby from Silver Cross Hospital’s Women and Infant Services Birthing Center staff and a giant teddy bear from Childerguild, the hospital’s auxiliary, the release said.

Albi also delivered the last baby born in 2014 at Silver Cross Hospital. Ayanna Sophia, the first child of Guadalupe Marin and Alejandro Campos of Joliet, was born at 9:48 p.m. Dec. 31.

Unlike Daniel, who was a week early, the baby girl was a week overdue, the release said.
