Cinemark Movies 10 at 2601 Plainfield Road, located in the same strip mall as Barnes & Noble, is being shut down.

Update/3:15 p.m. Friday:

The Cinemark Movies 10 theater will be bulldozed to make way for a new Dick's Sporting Goods store, according to message posted shortly before 3 p.m. Friday by Joliet Mayor Thomas Giarrante.

"Joliet's retail landscape just keeps getting better as we prepare to welcome Dick's Sporting Goods and DSW Shoes. The Movies 10 building next to Barnes & Noble across from the Louis Joliet Mall will be demolished soon and a new building will take its place. Both Dick's and DSW will offer new construction job opportunities as well as retail positions."

A timetable for the construction work has not been announced, but the theater is set to close in late January/early February.

Cinemark Movies 10, a Joliet fixture for more than 20 years, is tentatively set to close its doors Jan. 25.

The 2601 Plainfield Road theater, which started out as a first-run movie house before being switched to a $2 show complex upon the completion of Cinemark Louis Joliet Mall, was not bringing in enough customers, an employee said.

The Jan. 25 date is not finalized, and it could be pushed back to Feb. 8, the employee said.

The staff that is employed by the theater will be relocated to other Cinemark theaters, she said.
