The Illinois Chamber of Commerce, in conjunction with the Illinois Economic Development Association, has announced Romeoville's Magid Glove and Safety will receive the 2015 award for economic development and job creation.
"This is the third time that a Romeoville project has received this award. We are honored that businesses such as Magid Glove and Safety are choosing Romeoville. With the addition of Magid Glove's 500 jobs, we added a total of 1,300 jobs to our employment base in 2014," Romeoville Mayor John Noak said.
Previous development projects that resulted in the Edie Award included the village's work with Peacock Engineering in 2014 and with Kimberly Clark in 2009. Romeoville is one of the few Illinois communities' to receive multiple EDIE awards since it started in 2009.
Magid Glove and Safety is one of the nation's leading manufacturers and suppliers of personal protective equipment (PPE) and value-added services for the industrial and consumer markets. Magid Glove & Safety outgrew its existing two locations in Chicago and looked for a new facility to consolidate its primary manufacturing and distribution operations and headquarters into one campus.
After a four-year site search, including looking at locations in Wisconsin, the company chose the property in Romeoville for its new headquarters. The relocation of the national headquarters into Romeoville has generated significant advancements for the community. The project has brought approximately 500 jobs to Romeoville, with about 50 new hires that are Romeoville residents.
The award will be presented at the Illinois Chamber of Commerce's 2015 Annual Meeting on July 14 in Chicago.
