Five Hispanic students win Silver Cross scholarships

The $5,000 in grant money was awarded through Joliet-based Familias Unidas por la Educacion.
These are the students who won Silver Cross Scholarships through Familias Unidas por la Educacion. Five new students received the same grant money this year.

Silver Cross Hospital provided this news release:

Familias Unidas por la Educacion recently awarded $5,000 in scholarships from a Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission grant.

Each of the following students received a $1,000 scholarship on May 5: Deisi Alcantar, Joliet Junior College; Juana Alvarado, St. Benedictine University; Heidy Del Toro, St. Xavier University; Erica Guzman, University of St. Francis; and Jesus Patino, Joliet Junior College.

“Familias Unidas por la Educacion is thankful to the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission,” said Juan Gloria, Advisor/Founder of Familias Unidas por la Educacion.

“Our organization is proud to work with Silver Cross to support local students on their college endeavors and hopes to increase its awareness on education by continuing to build stronger relationships within families and the community.”

Familias Unidas por la Educacion awards scholarships to students who demonstrate good grades and community service. With the help of Silver Cross’ Healthy Community Commission, they are able to grant new scholarships to six deserving individuals. Scholarship recipients must live within the zip codes 60432, 60433 and 60436.
