Performers are being sought to entertain at this year’s Back-2-School Blast, the end-of-the-summer party in which free backpacks are distributed to school children and lots of games, family activities and food offered.

The 4th annual event will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 8 at Nowell Park, 5 Mills Road, just off Chicago Street/Route 53, in Joliet.

Last year’s Blast drew a record 3,500 people. It’s sponsored by The Times Weekly, the Joliet Park District and Cavalcade Church in Joliet.

Entertainment will include face painting, basketball tournaments, carnival games, bounce houses, live and DJ-provided music and special guest appearances, including players for the Chicago Sky WNBA team. Among the highlights will be free food, school supplies, giveaways, prize drawings and vendors.

Organizers are still seeking more children’s entertainers. If you have an act you or your group would like to present, contact Tamika Archibald for more details. She can be reached at tarchibald@TheTimesWeekly.com.
