Students Receive $1,000 College Scholarships

The Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce awarded 40 students, including 19 Joliet Grade School District 86 students, from Joliet area schools with $1,000 college scholarships at the 2nd Annual Joliet Region Education Scholarship Banquet. Students in grades 4-8 were nominated by an educator to apply for the scholarship. Applicants had to maintain a grade point average of 3.75 or above on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate service to their school or community to be considered for the award. The scholarships were created to encourage and motivate students at an early age to plan to attend college
This year’s District 86 winners were: Culbertson: Kaitlyn Mezger; Cunningham: Alyssa Flores; Eisenhower: Juliet Tonkovic; Farragut: Samantha Hebrard-Flores; Forest Park: Samantha Parsons; Jefferson: Ste’jah Allen; Keith: Jasmine Sofia Mireles-Rasado; Marshall: Maylin Padilla; Pershing: Dorela Ramadani; Sanchez: Maya Perez; Singleton: Amelia Braxton; Sandburg: Christian Lea-Jones; Taft: Knowledge Wright; Thigpen: Iris Cazares; Woodland: Rafael Gutierrez; Dirksen: Zachary Hamidi; Gompers: Da Narius Poole; Hufford: Kimberly Garibay; and Washington: Page Haynes.
