On The Fence

There is one word that fits the champion Chicago Blackhawks team like a glove but likewise is one that no player wants to identify with or for that matter even be caught uttering...that word would be dynasty.
Regardless of how superstitious hockey players can generally be, the word dynasty was meant for teams like the Blackhawks and when you consider the fact that Chicago is the first team since the inception of the salary cap put in place after the last NHL lockout in 2004-05 to win multiple Stanley Cups. While many will argue that the Blackhawks haven't reached the heights of teams like the 1970's Montreal Canadians or the 1980's Edmonton Oilers teams but keep in mind those clubs did not have to contend with a salary cap put in place largely to create league parity.
Not since the championship runs by the Michael Jordan led Chicago Bulls have local fans been treated with such consistent excellence and I am certain many area restaurants and pubs welcomed the crowds. Personally my wife and I watched the final game at Anthony's Pub near Louis Joliet Mall which by the way was fantastic and was filled with area fans that where as loud as any I have been around.
This weekend we all celebrate Father's day and I have to say it will be just a little bit brighter after seeing our Blackhawks hoist the cup! In any event, here is to all of you fathers out there that sacrifice so much throughout the year for their kids and families.
It's funny how the older we get the more appreciative we become of our parents. Father's day is less about the gifts, cards or general acknowledgments for me personally rather it is the opportunity to spend quality time with my own father and in turn with my own children just enjoying the moment. Happy Father's Day to all dad's and my hope that each of you enjoy the day beyond measure!
