This weekend's Taste of Joliet, the Joliet Park District's annual kickoff to summer, will offer its traditional menu of live music, carnival rides, entertainment and, of course, food.

Things get under way at noon Friday when the carnival opens and food sales start, but the real highlight of the three-day extravaganza is the live music in which the headlining acts will be Cheap Trick at 9 p.m. Friday, Big & Rich at 9 p.m. Saturday and Plain White T's at 5 p.m. Sunday.

Admission is free from noon to 3 p.m. Friday. Otherwise, general admission tickets for Friday and Saturday are $10 if purchased online at www.tasteofjoliet.com, or $15 at the gate. General admission on Sunday is $5 online or $10 at the gate. Children ages 11 and under get in free with an adult. Seniors are charged just $5.

(Heads up -- a service fee of $2.50 is charged for every ticket bought online.)

Front section tickets for the concerts cost extra, but the only ones remaining are for Sunday's lineup of shows. They cost $20 and include the price of admission.

The festival is open from noon to midnight Friday, noon to midnight Saturday and noon to 7 p.m. Sunday. It's held at Joliet Memorial Stadium, 3000 W. Jefferson St. No chairs or backpacks are allowed.

Carnival ride tickets can be purchased individually, or a carnival "mega pass" good for the whole weekend can be bought online or at the gate for $60. The special "Kids Zone" part of the carnival features inflatables, face painting and a balloon artist.
