The Plainfield Central High School teacher arrested for having sexual contact with a student was fired by the District 202 school board Monday night.
Brian D. Smith, 32, of 3710 Saratoga, Joliet, was charged with criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, on Feb. 27 after it was learned he'd had oral sex with a 17-year-old female student, according to police reports.
Smith, a science teacher with the district since August 2014, has not been allowed to return to the Plainfield campus. Monday night's unanimous action board directs Supt. Lane Abrell to start the process to suspend and revoke Smith's Illinois teaching certificate, the district said in a news release.
The Plainfield Police Department’s liaison officer for the high school and school officials provided the information leading to Smith's arrest.
Smith has been released from the Will County jail on $600,000 bond.
