Joliet City Councilman Bob O'Dekirk will receive the Illinois State Crime Commission's 2015 Award of Excellence in Municipal Government at the nonprofit agency's June awards dinner.
O'Dekirk, a councilman since 2011 and a current mayoral candidate, was cited for his career as a Joliet police officer and later an attorney, commission Executive Director Jerry Elsner said in a release announcing the award.
O'Dekirk was also a regional commander in Iraq with the U.S. State Department.
"This organization is proud to honor a true professional such as Bob O'Dekirk, with a brilliant career in law enforcement, the legal community and in representing our great country in Iraq," Elsner said.
O'Dekirk will receive the honor at the 2015 awards dinner on June 17 at the Drury Lane in Oakbrook Terrace.
