Lewis makes list of top U.S. online schools

Lewis University was ranked No. 31 on a list of the top 50 best online campuses in the country.

Lewis University in Romeoville was cited as one of the top 50 best online schools in the country by TheBestSchools.org.

The organization evaluates colleges across the country to help prospective students decide where to seek a degree, and ranked Lewis as No. 31 on a list that also included such large state schools as the University of Missouri, Boston University, Indiana University and Colorado State.

The only other Illinois school to make the 2015-16 list was the University of Illinois in Springfield, which ranked 24. The No. 1 school was Penn State World Campus, which is Pennsylvania State University's "online campus."

"In formulating this ranking, we looked to such factors as academic excellence, scholarly strength of faculty, online teaching methods, tuition costs, reputation, including reputation for online degree programs, awards, financial aid, and the range of degree programs offered," web site spokeswoman Monica Roberts said.

"Lewis University, a private, Roman Catholic university founded in 1932, offers more than 100 programs of study leading to undergraduate and graduate degrees through five colleges and schools. Lewis University enrolls about 6,800 students.

"Lewis University offers a variety of online classes, as well as a host of online degree programs.

"Online offerings include bachelor degrees in business administration, information security and risk management, information technology management, and professional studies. The university offers some programs in an accelerated format.

"Lewis University also offers seven online master’s degrees, such as aviation and transportation, business analytics, and organizational leadership; and a doctor of nursing practice degree.

"U.S. News & World Report ranked Lewis University #23 in Regional Universities (Midwest) in the 2015 edition of Best Colleges. The Higher Learning Commission provides Lewis University with accreditation."
