On The Fence

With a little more than two weeks left to before graduation ceremonies kick into high gear, I think now would be a good time to tip the old hat I wear to all of those student-athletes who have made our year another fantastic one.
While most will walk away without a championship, all will walk away as champions just for participating. I am always amazed at the amount of work and sacrifice it takes to be a member of most any team and this years graduates have put the effort into their seasons and now will be focused on repeating such effort on their futures.
Some will no doubt move on in their respective sports and others will pursue new life challenges in an effort to win at the most important game...life.
I have always felt that participating on a team sport not only builds character but demonstrates in a real way that real success comes when a group of individuals come together in the pursuit of a common goal. Whether those goals are personal or professional, it normally takes a collective effort to overcome challenges that may stand in the way and drawing from previous teamwork experience is the hidden benefit of team sport.
I'm quite certain there won't be a marching band or a stand full of fans backing these athletes up as they head off in pursuit of their dreams but that certainly doesn't mean that energy and support isn't there. Family, friends and even co-workers become the fans and a good car stereo cranked up in traffic becomes the new marching band but make no mistake about it, there is always someone pulling for you.
As the seasons wind down and the celebrations begin, all of us at The Times Weekly Newspaper want to extend our deepest gratitude for your efforts and allowing our staff the opportunity to report on your sporting efforts. We all wish you the greatest of future successes and hope that you will do your part in our society to take on the challenges that face us as a whole and make a difference just as you have done in the athletic world. God speed to each of you!
