Update: Body in river ID'd as homeless Shorewood man

The deceased man found in the DuPage River Monday has been identified as William Klem, 44, a homeless Shorewood resident, the Will County Coroner's Office said.

The preliminary results of an autopsy conducted Tuesday revealed a cause of death as drowning.

Klem was identified by doing a tattoo comparison and through a hospital ID bracelet.

The body of a man was found Monday in the DuPage River, just west of the Route 59 bridge in Shorewood, according to the Will County Coroner's Office.

The man's identity is being withheld until his family can be notified and positive identification made, Coroner Pat O'Neil said.

The victim was pronounced deceased at 2:33 p.m. Monday. No cause of death was released. An autopsy will be conducted today.

Shorewood police are handling the investigation.
