Housing developer M/I Homes to build 370 new homes in Plainfield

Published on

One of the homebuilders in the Chicagoland area, M/I Homes has closed on land acquisitions for two new communities that together will bring more than 370 new-construction homes to southwest-suburban Plainfield, Ill. Riverstone, located off 127th Street west of Naperville-Plainfield Road, is M/I Homes’ first riverfront community along the DuPage River and will include both single-family homes and ranch villas. Lockley Park, located at 143rd Street and South Steiner Road, will offer two-story townhomes and ranch villas just minutes from downtown Plainfield.

“As we’ve already experienced with other M/I Homes communities in Plainfield, this suburb continues to be a top choice for buyers seeking a vibrant town to call home with plentiful outlets for recreation, great schools, and easy access to daily conveniences and transportation arteries,” said Rick Champine, area president of M/I Homes. “With the strong, ongoing demand in this area, we’re eager to introduce these two new options for homebuyers, which together offer quite a range of choices in terms of home styles, floor plan features, price points and locations within Plainfield. Both are also planned to create a distinctive community feel, contributing to a lifestyle that will only be enhanced by the thoughtfully designed homes we’re building at Riverstone and Lockley Park.”

Land development for both new communities are set to start in May, with anticipated grand openings and first deliveries for each in late 2024.

Riverstone is planned to showcase and complement its scenic riverfront setting with tree-lined streets, open green space, four pocket parks, and walking paths along the DuPage River and throughout the community. A 30-acre on-site public park along the river, managed by the Plainfield Park District, will feature multi-use pathways, open space, and a playground.

“This is the first riverfront community we’ve built in the Chicago area, so it’s been exciting for our team to consider the full development site with an eye toward enhancing the naturally occurring landscape,” said Cheryl Bonk, vice president of sales and marketing for M/I Homes. “Between its lovely surroundings and variety of homes, Riverstone will appeal to a range of residents – from those seeking a larger family home to downsizers and busy professionals who will appreciate the easy lifestyle of our villas.”

The 170 single-family homes at Riverstone will offer designs from M/I Homes’ Classic Series of two-story floor plans, which range from 1,696 to 3,831 square feet and include in-demand features such as island kitchens that open to living space; flex rooms; mudroom; and lofts. The 40 ranch villas at Riverstone will give buyers the choice of two floor plans from M/I Homes’ new Homestead Series, which measure just over 1,600 square feet and are designed to maximize space for convenient single-level living.

At Lockley Park, a total of 99 two-story townhomes from M/I Homes’ Charlestown Series – which includes four floor plans ranging from 1,500 to 2,136 square feet – and 69 ranch villas from the Homestead Series will give buyers a range of home designs to choose from that all offer the convenience of low-maintenance living.

“These homes are truly turnkey, while at the same time offering many of the same sought-after features as our single-family home designs,” noted Bonk. “They are a great option for anyone looking to balance the convenience of an attached home with maximum comfort and functionality.”

A centralized private park with formal gardens is the centerpiece of Lockley Park, which will also feature walking paths and open green space throughout the community. Residents will have easy access to shopping, dining, and entertainment in downtown Plainfield, as well as multiple retailers and restaurants located along the nearby Route 59 corridor.
