City of Joliet election petition deadline is Dec. 19

Residents have until Dec. 19 to file their petition for one of three open council seats.

Residents interested in running for one of three at-large Joliet City Council positions have until Monday, December 19 at 5 p.m. to file a petition packet.

The city council positions are all for 4-year terms.

Candidacy petitions must be filed with the Joliet City Clerk’s Office located in the Joliet Municipal Building, 150 W. Jefferson Street, Joliet, Illinois, between Monday, December 12, 2016 and Monday, December 19, 2016 during normal business hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Joliet City Clerk’s Office will remain open until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 to accept petitions for candidacy.

All petitions filed by candidates (or representatives) who are waiting in line at the Joliet City Clerk’s Office at 8:00 a.m. on Monday, December 12, 2016 will be considered simultaneously filed on Monday, December 12, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. and will be included in a lottery drawing to determine first ballot positions. In addition, all petitions filed by candidates (or representatives) after 4:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, December 19, 2016 will be considered simultaneously filed on Monday, December 19, 2016 at 5:00 p.m. and will be included in a lottery drawing to determine final ballot positions.

Two separate lotteries will take place on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at 8:00 a.m. in the Joliet City Clerk’s Office. The lotteries are open to the public and candidates are not required to attend.

Aside from simultaneous filings, the ballot order of candidates shall be based on the order petitions are filed.
