The Wide World of Wine: Crisp, fruit-forward white wine from Spain

It’s time to roll out the bright, crisp, fruity wines that are perfect anytime. One of the newest discoveries is from Spain's youngest DO, the Somontano, established in 1984. One of the leading producers is Luces brands, creators of the Secastilla and Vinas del Vero labels. Secastilla is more of the producer's fine-dining, reserve category, but Vinas del Vero, at $12 a bottle, is wine designed to be enjoyed early and often. A blend of Chardonnay, local Macabeo and Sauvignon Blanc grapes, 2014 Vinas del Vero -Luces Blanco is just dripping with bright citrus flavors of lemon and grapefruit, with a touch of white orange blossoms on the nose and a hint of green apple. The flavor invites pairing with shellfish, salmon and sushi. Salads made with avocado, endive and even fresh mint would go well with this crisp, refreshing wine. Don't forget a copious display of shellfish to start things off. Fresh lobster is going for a song right now, as are fresh clams and oysters. Don't hold back. With the savings you'll enjoy on the wine.
