Pam McGuire remembers vividly walking into her office after being sworn in as the new Will County Circuit Court Clerk ...

She also is glad to have stayed around long enough to see certain legislation come to the surface to assist the Will County Courts in collecting outstanding fines and other court costs. McGuire expects the clerk’s office to collect $1 million to $2 million within the next year from the Tax Intercept Program and through another scofflaw collection program, her office collected more than $28 million in outstanding fines and court costs, she said.

One program McGuire is most proud of is one set up through her office in 1998 that enabled single parents to receive unclaimed child support checks. She said these were people who had moved and gave up trying to obtain the money. Through the program, her office returned $18,000 to one woman and $11,000 to another, McGuire said.

“These were people who very likely really needed that money for their families,” she said.

McGuire receives an annual salary of $93,000, but she says it is still lower than other surrounding counties.

Despite its long hours, she said the job has been “extremely rewarding.

“It’s been a fun job and I learned something every day,” she said. “But it’s constant and very time consuming between running the office and running for office.”

While she is leaving office the 61-year-old Joliet resident has no plans of retiring. McGuire said she’s ready to start a new career, but is not yet sure exactly what it will be.

“I get to do something completely new and start a new chapter,” she said. “It’s exciting.”

Before her term ends, she said he hopes to see e-filing for civil and criminal cases to be fully operational at the courthouse and electronic citations rolled out to as many police departments in the county as possible.

Democrat Andrea Chasteen is a candidate currently running for Circuit Clerk. Also running for the seat are Democrat Robert “Bob” Enright and Republican Marlene Carlson, both of New Lenox. Carlson ran against McGuire in 2012.
