The Troy Varsity Cheerleaders finished 2nd in the state in the “Large Cheer” category and 4th in the “Cheer and Music”category in the 2016 IESA state competition in Peoria.
Cheer Coach and School District 30-C Troy Middle School teacher Julie Brandolino said she was proud of the team’s members, who were very dedicated and worked hard throughout the season, driven to perform their best at every competition.
“The 2015-2016 Troy Cheerleaders were the most talented and athletic group of young ladies I have coached in my 10 years coaching Cheer for Troy,” Brandolino said. “They had to work together as a unified group to overcome many challenges, including some injuries that caused us to adjust the routine. I am so proud of their determination, dedication and achievements this cheer season.”
This is Brandolino’s final year coaching the team. Troy Athletics and Activities Director Meagan DeGroot said she will be greatly missed.
“Not only has Julie been a phenomenal coach for the last 10 years at Troy,” DeGroot said, “but she has mentored a lot of young ladies along the way. Julie has lead by example, and she was dedicated to make the girls better each year. Many times she could be seen at practice working on the mats with the girls.”
