CHANNAHON – Start Earth Month on the right foot by joining the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s “River Shoreline Clean-Up” from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center, 25055 W. Walnut Lane, McKinley Woods. Help collect small and large debris along the banks of the Des Plaines River and learn how your time and effort helps the river ecosystem. Be prepared for a day of invigorating work. Dress for the weather and for getting dirty. Wearing knee high rubber boots or waders is highly recommended. The free event is for ages 14 and older. Registration is required by Wednesday, March 30; call 815-722-9470.

BEECHER – “Salamander Safari” is scheduled for 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 2, at the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Plum Creek Nature Center, 27064 S. Dutton Road. Discover details about this unique amphibian and the reason for the salamander season as you take part in games, crafts and a guided 1-mile, off-trail walk searching for salamanders. Registration is not required for the free, all-ages program.
