Help boost the planet’s biodiversity by buying native plants, shrubs and trees for your yard or garden at the fourth annual “Bringing Nature Home Native Plant Sale” on Saturday, May 21, in Joliet.

The plant sale will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot of the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s Sugar Creek Administration Center, 17540 W. Laraway Road.

Both the plant sale and a special “Friday Night Pre-Sale Event” are being hosted by Friends of the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the Forest Preserve’s non-profit fundraising foundation. The pre-sale is scheduled for 4-8 p.m. on Friday, May 20, at the same location. While admission to the Saturday plant sale is free, tickets to Friday’s fundraising pre-sale cost $20 and include an evening of jazz, craft beers, fine wine, artisan cheeses and desserts.

More than 100 species of native perennials, shrubs and trees grown by event partner Possibility Place Nursery in Monee will be available for purchase. Cash, checks and credit cards will be accepted at both events. All sales are final. Profits from the plant sale will be used to support the Forest Preserve’s nature education programs.

Connor and Kelsey Shaw of Possibility Place will be present at the plant sale to answer questions about native plants. The Shaws have 75 years of combined experience. Saturday’s plant sale will feature workshops, exhibitors and vendors. Rain barrels from The Conservation Foundation can be pre-ordered for pick-up at the plant sale. Raffle tickets will be sold both days for hand-crafted items.

To buy entry tickets for Friday’s pre-sale, place rain barrel orders or learn more about plant sale vendors, exhibitors, workshops, plant availability and pricing, visit friendsofwillcountyforests.org.
