A popular summer venue will make a welcome return to downtown Plainfield.

The Plainfield Village Board Monday approved road closures and general layout for

Plainfield Fest, which will be from Friday, July 15, to Sunday, July 17.

This means drivers who use Lockport Street from Route 59 to James Street; Illinois

Street from the alley north of Lockport to Chicago streets Des Plaines Street from

Oak to Ottawa streets; Chicago Street from Lockport to Ottawa streets; and Fox River

Street from Lockport to Ottawa streets will be impacted by road closures during the

Summer festival.

"Plainfield Fest includes a beer tent, craft and business expo area, food court,

carnival rides, games, live entertainment, family-oriented activities and more,"

said Rob Epley, executive director of the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation, which

organizes the popular event. "This is Plainfield's largest event of the year with

attendance estimated at several thousand daily."

Proceeds from Plainfield Fest benefit the foundation, which maintains and improves

Riverfront Park, located south of Lockport Street along the west bank of the DuPage

River.

But during Monday's board meeting, staff expressed some concerns regarding the

event's layout. More at thetimesweekly.com
