Fest returns to downtown Plainfield

A popular summer venue will make a welcome return to downtown Plainfield.
The Plainfield Village Board Monday approved road closures and general layout for
Plainfield Fest, which will be from Friday, July 15, to Sunday, July 17.
This means drivers who use Lockport Street from Route 59 to James Street; Illinois
Street from the alley north of Lockport to Chicago streets Des Plaines Street from
Oak to Ottawa streets; Chicago Street from Lockport to Ottawa streets; and Fox River
Street from Lockport to Ottawa streets will be impacted by road closures during the
"Plainfield Fest includes a beer tent, craft and business expo area, food court,
carnival rides, games, live entertainment, family-oriented activities and more,"
said Rob Epley, executive director of the Plainfield Riverfront Foundation, which
organizes the popular event. "This is Plainfield's largest event of the year with
attendance estimated at several thousand daily."
Proceeds from Plainfield Fest benefit the foundation, which maintains and improves
Riverfront Park, located south of Lockport Street along the west bank of the DuPage
But during Monday's board meeting, staff expressed some concerns regarding the
