2014 Harken Chardonnay is a bright, fruity, oakey Chardonnay that recalls the great California vintages of yesteryear. 100% barrel fermented and aged in oak, it's flavors build steadily in the mouth with delicious ripe pear and touches of Meyer lemon and a hint of tangerine blossoms. The spicy taste and aroma of new oak permeates the wine and gives it great body and strength of character. This wine is what California Chardonnay is all about. Detractors need only stand aside while the rest of us enjoy its rich bounty. A terrific wine with food, its perfect for the harvest table with roasted or grilled fresh root vegetables and various squashes. Try a pumpkin and allspice soup or spaghetti squash tossed in garlic butter and sprinkled with toasted pine nuts and grated Romano cheese. Rosemary and lemon chicken with a side of red quinoa or sesame couscous is another match. Even baby lamb chops smothered in fresh thyme and garlic infused olive oil served barely cooked off the grill or in the broiler for four minutes per side tops will make for one of the best wine and food pairings you've ever had. If you can find a recipe for the little fried Risotto balls called Arancini, that’s a perfect starter dish. Bon Appétit!
