Wine of the Week: Ruffino Prosecco DOC-$15

Ruffino Prosecco DOC-$15 is the perfect party companion. Perfect as an aperitif with hors d'oeuvres, this fruity, fragrant sparkling wine is the ideal companion for assorted cheeses, charcuterie and crudite. At far less than $20 a bottle, its surprising how this effervescent wine shows the same characteristics as those costing far more; fine bubbles, crisp notes of Golden Apples, Bosc Pears and Meyer Lemon and a hint of candied fruit with hints and aromas of delicate, little white flowers to give it an elegant finish. Alone or as a mix for cocktails, Ruffino is versatile and flavorful. The combinations are endless. Ruffino can take you right through the evening, from the cocktail hour and at the buffet or dinner table. Perfect with seafood, pizza, pastas or salads, it can go casual or 'dressed up' alongside truffled mac 'n cheese or a thick slide of Halibut drenched in lemon butter sauce. Try it with a hearty veal chops or medallions of veal with a wild mushroom cream sauce and a bit of Prosecco and a dollop of butter added just at the end for flavor and consistency. As Halloween and the Holidays approach, consider Ruffino as the perfect ingredient to make cocktails. Let your imagination be your guide. Here's a cocktail idea straight from Ruffino's home of the lovely village of Prosecco near Trieste, Italy.
