State Sen. Jennifer Bertino-Tarrant (D-Shorewood) and State Rep. Natalie

Manley (D-Joliet) will be hosting a free shredding event that is open to the public.

It will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Abri Credit Union, 1350

Renwick Road, Romeoville.

"I am happy to work with Romeoville to provide this service," Bertino-Tarrant said.

"This event will allow people to safely and efficiently dispose of old documents."

Documents will be accepted for shredding until trucks reach capacity.

"Making sure that we keep our personal information out of the hands of criminals is

one way to help prevent being the victim of identity theft or other types of fraud,"

Manley said. "By shredding and properly disposing of documents that contain that

sensitive information, we can greatly minimize that potential risk."

Medication disposal services will also be offered by the Romeoville Police Department.

No electronics will be accepted for recycling.

Anyone with questions about the event can contact Samantha Marcum in

Bertino-Tarrant's district office at (815) 254-4211.
