JJC hosting resource fair for vets
4/5/2017, 6 a.m.
Joliet Junior College is hosting a resource fair for veterans of all ages on May 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the Main Campus, 1215 Houbolt Road in Joliet in the C-Concourse, in front of the Veterans Center.
The resource fair is being held to help provide information on community resources to all veterans in the JJC district. Several vendors will be participating, which include:
• Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs*
• Hines Community Outreach Program
• Will and Grundy County Veterans Assistance Commissions
• Orland Park Vet Center
• And many more
“This fair will be a great opportunity for veterans of all ages to come see all the resources that are available to them, including health check-ups from Hines VA,” said Cheryl Hlavac, JJC veterans coordinator.
“Also, any veterans interested in coming back to school can learn about everything JJC has to offer them to help them complete their educational goals.”
- A Service Officer from the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs will be available for veterans who are interested in receiving the official “veteran” designation on their state driver’s license or ID card.
Veterans must bring two copies of their DD214. After the necessary certification is obtained from the IDVA, the veteran may apply for a new, renewal or updated driver’s license or ID card at any Secretary of State Driver Services facility.
The designation will be no additional cost for first-time driver’s license applicants and driver’s license renewals. If veterans choose to add the designation before their renewal date, they may obtain an updated driver’s license for $5 and an updated ID card for $10. Veterans over the age of 65 can obtain an updated state ID card at no cost. National Guard and Reserve Members can also receive veteran designation on their driver’s license or ID card.
