Ruth Colby has been named as the new CEO and president of Silver Cross Hospital.
Colby currently serves as Silver Cross’ Senior Vice President of Business Development and Chief Strategy Officer.
Colby replaces the hospital’s current President and CEO Paul Pawlak who announced last year his plans to retire in September. Pawlak has served as the hospital’s president for 27 years, making him its longest serving CEO.
During his tenure, he oversaw a strong period of growth including the opening of a $362 million replacement hospital in 2012.
“Ruth was selected because of her successful leadership track record at Silver Cross,” said Douglas Hutchison Jr., Chairman, Silver Cross Board of Directors who noted her track record for strategic planning which helped the hospital position itself for its rapid growth.
Colby said she was “honored to have been selected” and thanked the Board of Directors for their endorsement.
“I look forward to continuing to ensure Silver Cross remains a treasured asset to our community and to the patients we are privileged to serve,” she said in a statement.
Colby earned her Bachelor’s Degree at Northwestern University, a Master’s Degree at New York University and an MBA at University of Chicago. In addition to Silver Cross Hospital, she has held leadership positions at University of Chicago Medicine and Solucient (now Truven Health Analytics). She continues to serve on numerous community boards, such as the Silver Cross Healthy Community Commission, University of Chicago Medicine Cancer Research Women’s Board, Will County MAPP (Mobilizing for Action through Planning & Partnerships) Collaborative, and Board Member for Advocate Physicians Partners.
