Governor’s veto threatens Illinois K-12 students

State Senator Pat McGuire, D-Joliet, issued the following statement after Gov. Bruce Rauner issued an amendatory veto to Senate Bill 1, legislation focused on school funding reform.
“Gov. Rauner early in his term blew a hole in the lives of tens of thousands of pre-school students by tossing them off state-supported child care. He then blew a hole in the lives of 100,000 low-income collegians by withholding funds for financial aid and higher education. His amendatory veto of SB 1 now threatens to blow a hole in the lives of two million K-12 students, their families and their teachers. I urge Gov. Rauner to negotiate, compromise and remove the pall of uncertainty hanging over Illinois' 852 school districts.”
