Leave it to the Frescobaldi's of Tuscany, who've been making wine for six centuries, to come out with a new release that just brims over with elegance and enjoyment. Lucente 2014 ($24) is a blend of Merlot and Sangiovese from Tuscany that brings out the best in both of these grapes. Well rounded, with silky tannins, the wine is perfect with grilled meats, such as a hearty Cowboy Rib Eye steak, or game meats, like Roast Duck, Pheasant, o, my favorite, Quail. . It's also great with pungent, soft cheeses, like Gorgonzola or an herbed Goat's cheese. The wine is a veritable bouquet of red fruit, black cherries and crushed red flowers, with back notes of vanilla and roasted coffee beans. A deep Ruby-red color with flecks of purple gives the wine the type of visual introduction that makes it appealing. Every sip is pure ecstasy and a marvelous expression of everything under the Tuscan sun. September is the start of the harvest. What better way to toast the coming bounty of the Fall Harvest than with a glass of Lucente 2014.
