Village officials have approved a plan for grocery retailer Aldi to construct an addition to its store located at 398 S. Weber Road which first opened in 2009.

The Village Board approved the site plan for the 2,060 square-foot expansion which will add square footage to the front of the store providing more space for refrigerated goods inside and to reconfigure and expand the checkout area.

“It is great to see existing retailers reinvest in our community and grow their operation. An expansion is proof that the company cares about their customers and wants to offer more space, quality products and an improved shopping experience,” said Mayor John Noak.

Construction is anticipated to begin this spring.

The expansion follows the recently completed remodel of the chain's Joliet store on Route 59 and Caton Farm Road which reopened at the end of 2016 with an additional 3400 square foot of floor space. That store was closed for 5 weeks in order to complete the final phase of the remodel.
