Congressman Bill Foster (D-IL) issued the following statement on the 115th Congress:
1/3/2017, 5:30 p.m.
“At the beginning of the 115th Congress, there are clear signs that Republicans will repeal much of the legislation that has improved the quality of life for so many Americans.
Thanks to the Affordable Care Act, over 20 million people now have access to health insurance, and 129 million have protection against pre-existing conditions. Our economy is also the strongest it has been since 2008, adding nearly 11 million jobs since President Obama took office at the height of the Great Recession. Financial legislation, including the Dodd-Frank Act, has helped prevent another recession and has put in place essential protections for working families.
I strongly condemn any actions that would undo the progress we have made for constituents in the 11th District of Illinois and for Americans across the country. Together, we have begun to improve access to health care and economic opportunities for all Americans. We should look to continue this improvement rather than destroying it.”
The 115th Congress opened on January 3, 2017.
