The White Oak Library District will host its 3rd annual comics and pop culture fest – Comicopolis – on August 5 at its Lockport Branch, 121 E. 8th St. Lockport Library

The White Oak Library District will host its 3rd annual comics and pop culture fest – Comicopolis – on August 5 at its Lockport Branch, 121 E. 8th St.

The comics-themed event is organized in partnership with Amazing Fantasy Books and Comics and the City of Lockport’s Summer Art Series.

The gargantuan event has grown so big that it will be held both inside and outside of the library building with doors opening at 10:00 a.m. and the festivities running until 4:00 pm.

Admission is free and will include activities for kids of all ages. During the event, the library will remain open for regular patrons as well.

Fun activities planned throughout the day include:

• swag bag giveaways for the first 500 attendees

• Harry Potter Tri-Wizard Tournament for Kids

• Visit with Crosstown Exotics Giant Turtles for TMNT photo ops

• Outdoor music presented by the Taft School Summer Band and the School of Rock – Mokena

• The Limestone Stage and Quarried Away Improv group

• door prizes

• Grand Prize Drawing for gift baskets (winners need not be present to win)

• Photo Booth with pictures available for purchase

• Photo Opportunities with cosplayers all day

• Pod Racing for Kids

• Live Pac-Man Tournament

• Kids Crafts

• Face Painting

• Costume Contest with $50.00 gift card prizes for best adult, teen, and child’s costume at 3:00 p.m.

• Food options include the Tacos Giselle Food Truck and Mr. Salty’s

• and Beer sold outside

In addition, representatives from the Lockport’s City Summer Arts Series including Mayor Steve Streit and his wife Wendy Streit will be there to talk about the upcoming Summer Arts Series Steampunk Weekend on September 23-24.

Special guests for the day include over 30 artists, illustrators, writers, as well as vendors. They include:
